Digital flipbook trouble shooting

Q1 - The flipbook displays with two pages squashed onto a single page

Cause: The PDF file has been saved as a spread.

Solution:  Export the PDF file from your design software as single pages, then upload to MagManager.

Cause: The link has been automatically detected as it's embedded in the PDF file.

Solution: To remove the link > Go to the flatplan overview > Select AutoPublish Options > Select Edit Flipbook > Click on the link box to open the side menu > Click Delete and the link will be removed.

or

If the link is on an individual advert > Open the advert details > Click Edit Links > Click on the link box to open he side menu > Click Delete and the link will be removed.

Q3 - The PDF file has been uploaded but nothing appears or it's not replacing existing upload.

Cause: It's likely the file is over 200MB or it needs to be flattened.

Solution: Try reducing the size of the file (to under 200MB) and flattening the PDF with Adobe Pro or other apps.

Steps to reduce the file size in Adobe Pro:

Select Menu > Select Save as Other > Select Reduce File Size > Select OK > Check the file name and where you want to save the file > Click Save.

Steps to flatten the PDF in Adobe Pro:

  1. Make a copy of your PDF.
  2. Choose Advanced > Print Production > Flattener Preview.
  3. Adjust the Raster/Vector balance.
  4. Select Convert All Text To Outlines.
  5. Deselect Clip Complex Regions.
  6. Click Apply to flatten the PDF.
  7. Close the Flattener Preview dialog box.
  8. Select Menu > Save As to save file to your device

Try uploading the new PDF file to MagManager.

Cause: It's likely due to the uploading PDF file not having crops marks and bleed.

Solution:  Check that the uploaded PDF file has crop marks and bleed.  If not then export the PDF again with crop marks and bleed and upload the new version to MagManager.

Q5  - The flipbook page is blank and displays a grey x.

Cause: The page has not been generated.

Solution: For AutoPublish users, mark the page as complete or if you uploaded a PDF to create the digital flipbook, try flattening the PDF file.

Marking the page as complete starts the process of the page being created that forms part of the digital flipbook.  Check the flatplan and mark the page as complete.  If the page is already marked as complete take the setting off and put it back on again, this will regenerate the page.

If that hasn't resolved it then it's likely an issue with your PDF file and it needs flattened (see Q3 above.)

Q6 - The wrong artwork is displayed in the digital flipbook compared to the flatplan.

In the example below the flipbook is displaying the bird article, while the flat plan displays the sleep article.

Cause:  The most common reason for this, is the flipbook being cached on your computer.

The other reason for this is that the page has been marked as complete, which starts the process of the page being created for the flipbook and later the artwork is changed.

Solution: The easiest way to tell if it's a browser cache issue is to open the flipbook on another device, if it's fine there you need to clear the cache on your device.  Follow the steps her

If the artwork was changed, the you need to force a refresh of the page by taking the page complete setting off and putting it back on again, that will regenerate that page of the digital flipbook.

Bear in mind that you device may still display the page from it's cache memory so you may still need to clear the cache. How to clear web browser cache.

Cause: Most likely the page was marked as complete before the link was added.

Solution: Take the page complete setting off and put it back on again.  If it's still not appearing it may be cached on your computer, so try clearing the cache.
