How to use master page templates

About master page templates

You can now create as many ‘Master Pages’ as you like for your publications.  Master Pages are useful if you use coloured header banners, edges or footer colours for different sections of your publications or for a header and info box for your index page.

Simply create a .pdf of a blank page that contains your headers and footers and have it ready to upload.

Steps to create & upload a master template

Step 1 - To create a master page: Select Settings >  Under Publications & Bookings > Select Page Layouts > Select Master Pages tab

(If required a blank template can be downloaded by selecting the page size from the Download template drop-down menu, below New Master Page.)

Step 2 - Select ‘New Master Page’ in the top right > This opens the ‘Manage Master Page’ where you can set up and upload your master page.

Step 3 - Enter the Name for your master page into the name field e.g. ‘Index Master’.

Step 4 - Enter a Description into the description field e.g. ‘Contains index background for XYZ Mag’.

Step 5 - Ensure you click the Enabled check box, so the blue tick appears – if you fail to do this, the master page won’t be available to use at a later stage.

Step 6 - Drag the artwork PDF file for your index master template onto the page or click to upload the file.

Step 7 - Click ‘Save’.

In the screenshot above, we have uploaded our directory of advertiser’s layout as it appears in our magazine and named it ‘Index Master’.

NOTE: If the artwork is specific to a right or left hand page, particularly for footers, remember you will need to create two templates, one for a left hand page and one for a right hand.

How to apply a master page to your whole publication

Step 1 - To apply a master page across your whole magazine: Select Settings >  Under Publications & Bookings > Select Page Layouts

Step 2 - Select the name of your layout

Step 3 -  Scroll down to Left Master Page & Right Master Page and select the master page from the drop-down list.

Step 4 - Click Save.

How to apply a master page template to an individual page in your publication

Step 1 - To apply a master page template to a page in your magazine: Select Home or Publications on the top navigation bar > Select the publication & issue from the side bar > In the centre of the screen click the issue name to open the flat plan overview > Click View Flat plan.

Step 2 - From the flat plan > Locate the page you wish to add the template to > Click the page number >  A pop-up window will display named ‘Layout’.

In this example you need to click on the number 5.

NOTE: The layout option will not appear if the page is empty, ie there is no artwork on the page.

Step 3 - Half way down the Layout page you will see 'Left Master Page' & 'Right Master Page'.  From here select the required master template from the drop-down menu

Step 4 - Click Save to update.

This will apply the selected master page template to that page of your publication.

NOTE: Objects on a master page will appear on all pages with that master page applied.
