Sections and categories

Steps to create and manage categories

In MagManager, categories are sub-divisions within the sections you have set up. You can choose more than one category for your clients. This means that you can list your client in more than one category in your index.

Step 1 - Go to the main Settings page.

Step 2 - Under Publications & Bookings Select Sections.

Sep 3 - You will see a list of sections you have set up. The blue Categories button indicates how many categories are set up for that section, and by clicking this you can add, edit or remove these categories.

Step 4 - To add a new category - Click the green New Category button, or to edit an existing category click on the categoty name.

Step 5 - Enter or edit the Name field and description. Check the enabled box to make the category active or un-check it to remove the blue tick and disable the category.

Step 6 -  Click Save to update any changes.

Step 7 - In this example of a client record, the Section “Charities” has been selected. Doing this brings up a choice of Categories, and you can choose both a Main Category and Other Categories.

Example of how categories appear in an index

To see how this could be used in an index, go to Reports and in the Indices section, click on “Advertisers Index Grouped by Category and Sub-category”. The client Neighbour Grove appears three times corresponding to each sub-category.

If you use AutoPublish to create your index rather than the Reports options - see How to create an advertisers index using AutoPublish for more details.

Note: If you plan to have multiple client's listed under more than one heading in your index then we would recommend you set up a single Section called 'All Categories' and add all the headings you plan to use as a category of the 'All Categories' section.

With this option the colour coding of sections would not be available to you, as all clients will all be listed under the one section.

Colour coding sections

Each Section can be assigned a colour, which can optionally be used in the flat-plan to let you quickly locate the bookings in that section.

Step 1 - Go to the main Settings page.

Step 2 - Under Publications & Bookings Select Sections.

Step 3 - Click on the name of the section you want to assign a colour to open Mange Section.

Step 4 - Click on the box under "background colour" and use the colour-picker tool to select the colour you want. If you are using a dark colour, you can also change the text colour to white.
